What have you been doing with your time lately?

What have you been doing lately with your time? Can you believe that four months have already passed in 2017?
Time passes quickly and it doesn’t wait for anyone, not for you and not for me. I understand that if you recently suffered a tragic loss time takes on a whole new dimension. It seems to stop at the defining moment that you lost your loved one. It feels that there is a gap or glitch that occurred in your timeline. If you have read my book, “Be Gentle with Me, I’m Grieving” you know that it’s important to take all the time you need to process your grief.
But once you begin to move forward you can feel time move again and you can make it work for you. If you look back over the last 5, 10, 15 or 20 years did you ever imagine you would have experienced all the tragedy and wonderful moments in your life? Or imagine that you would be at the age you are now? Probably not, it’s the concept of time.
Maybe time feels like a burden to you. You either race against it and become filled with anxiety because you feel you don’t have enough of it or you wait and expect time to stop with you and start again when you are ready. But that is not how it works. It passes you by, but you must learn to relax and work with it.
So the question is, are there things in your life that you want to change or decisions to make such as selling your home, buying a car, starting or quitting a job, begin dating, ending a dysfunctional relationship, starting an exercise program or diet, etc? If any of those are true then another question is what are you waiting for?
Time is not waiting for you!
Now is the time to make some changes or decisions. It is usually fear that holds you back. Don’t let it. Begin to take control of the time you have been given. It is a gift to you and is yours to make things happen in your life. No one else is going to do it for you.
If you are serious about beginning time management and achieving your goals start with something small and do this exercise.
Get a piece of paper and write down something you want to accomplish and a date to complete it. Make it within 7 days. Be realistic, such as make a call to a friend that you have put off for a long time or finish your resume. Don’t write something unrealistic such as fly to another state and back unless of course it is possible. You have just created a goal in your timeframe, so do it! Once you have completed it put a check mark next to it. Then take a moment to feel the sense of accomplishment and the control you just took back over time. It no longer controlled you! How does it make you feel? It should make you feel proud of yourself.
Now add another goal to your list and do the same as above. You have just begun the process of time management. This will lead to goal achievement. Do you want the entire 2017 to fly past you without doing something worthwhile?
